MDS Sound of 2011 Missers!!!

We are using the same voting system as in the MDS Sound of 2011, only difference, 32 acts are featured in the "survey" and you have to choose the first 10 acts! 1st place will award 10 points, 2nd 9, 3rd 8, going on till the 10th which gives 1 point. Poll will be open till February 3. The poll has a limit of 100 answers, and if that limit is exceded, I'll create more. I'll change the link and let you know when that happens, cause it will, the last poll casted almost 400 votes! It may be a little uncomfortable to vote, you just have to move to the right.

ACTS FEATURED: Alex Clare, Alice Gold, Anna Calvi, Austra, Brother,Carrie Wilds, Chasing Pluto, Cloud Control, Daughter,Elouise, Fabio Lendrum, Hanni El Khatib, Kitten, Kyla LaGrange, Leah Mason, Liam Bailey, Lord Huron, Lucy Rose, MNDR, Oh Land, Pearl and the Puppets, Pete Lawrie, Rita Ora, Saint Saviour, Selah Sue, The Boxettes, The Good Natured, The Naked and Famous, Tinashe, Trophy Wife, Yasmin and White Sea.

New edition of the MDS Sound of 2011, this time featuring the acts that missed the previous list, either because I didn't know them at the time or because they were not my favourites. However, I'm launching this section to give them a chance, and even announce a second winner! Although that is still being decided ...This edition will go on for 17 days, 2 acts per day, being the last a "wildcard" day for all the acts left! So, hope you enjoy it!

I'm back once more with some amazing contestants on the dutch XF! Rating are down from last week but it still managed 1.435.000, charting #4!. This is just a recap of the highlights, meaning that contestants who weren't speciallly good are not going to be featured. All contestants posted here have moved on to bootcamp.

Read my recap and watch the videos after the JUMP ...

Amin - He's got a nice tone, not the most powerful voice but he has something to work with. Really smooth and sweet, I actually quite like him. His running through the crowd was innecesary but he was good. He can make it with a little more work.

Janite - Her dancing is strange, makes her look really uncomfortable. I like her singing, again, she's not the best but has something to work with. This song was full of nerves but with more work she will be very good.

Jesse - He's cute! Looks like Jamie Archer but with a smaller afro. Sweet! He's got a Bruno Mars vibe. Look! His mother has the same afro! His voice lacks power but it sounds really nice and pleasant. The final part was amazing! He got a really cool raspiness there.

The Brunettes - They are a bit messy vocally. Not the best singers, they sound really pitchy individually. Together they blend really good, they have rnice harmonies. The second part is amazign! They sang that chorus really well!! The girl in white is an amazing singer and has really strong vocals!

Sjoerd - He looks creepy to me. He has something that I don't get. Like his voice, not the most unique, actually really normal voice but he's got the technique. Not such an impressive audition but he has good vocals and the last final note was great.

Jessica - She's singing Alicia Keys and is doing a damn good job with it! She's a great singer and actually resambles Alicia. Nice tone and phrasing and hit all the notes. A beautiful cover of one of Alicia's best songs. A great job!

Henk - Jazzy voice!! Like his tone. He's sort of a Michael Buble but more popish. He's different, haven't seen a singer like him in one of this shows, he could be really good! And he's voice is stunning!

Samayra - Impressing voice! She's very Leona Lewis-ish. I like her. She may be a good RnB/pop finalist. The final note was great! And apart from her great voice, she's got a cool name!

Arjan -  WOW! I'm speachless! What an impressive guy. He has a very smooth and sweet voice, really acoustic indeed. He may be my favourite guy. And he's unique! Interesting look and voice, really looking forward to seeing more of him!

Eveline - OMG!!! Another great unique singer tonight! She's got an amazing tone and phrasing, plus she's got powerful pipes! She's a strong quircky girl! My fave tonight! She's mesmerizing, crowd went crazy! She'll be a superstar!

The Difference - They look like a trainwreck and their song choice is strange. But they've got the voice! They can sing though are not nice to look at. They should have auditioned for The Voice. With an extreme make-over and a little vocal coaching they could be good, cause right now, they look as a mess!

We all know Lady Gaga. We all know she's a freak. We all know she's wierd. And, cause we all know her, we don't need an introduction. Her third album, "Born This Way" will be released on May 23, 2011 while title track was released on February 11 with the music video premiering today. Well, the music video is no exception to the freakness. If you thought Alejandro was strange, this is certainly more. Counting the wierd face bones, the unicorn and the birth scenes, all you can think throughout the video is WTF! It's purely wierd! You can't imagine how rare is this video till you watch it! I must say I was dissapointed with this song, I don't think it's better to any of the songs of her previous album but what's good is the message, the song itself. So without any more chatter, just go and watch the video!

Any Jen fan will be over the moon with this album and if you aren't one of those people, you'll ultimately be too! Her voice sounds as amazing as always and the album promises to be a hit. Melody Club

099-202 01/099-902 01 "The Hunter" - The stage is cool, it looks like a giant chess. I'm not a fan of them. His voice sounds just bad for me, like a bad , but a really bad, singer with a silly wig. Not good. Glad they put this first, they doesn't have a chance of winning at all!

Julia Alvgard

099-202 02/099-902 02 "Better or worse" - She's amazing!! Her quircky voice would do wonders in Eurovision, probably like Lena did. She's a great singer and the look is amazing. The song isn't that good but it's ok, she could do well with it. And she performs it well! She can even be one of my faves, cause that voice is incredible!!

Lasse Stefanz

099-202 03/099-902 03 "En blick och nånting händer" - Not liking this at all. Old people shouldn't sing if their voice sounds that old, aka, it's deteriorated by ages. I mean, you may have been a great singer when you were younger but years have passed and you are old and your voice sounds bad now. Sorry. Probably the worst performance of the night.

Linda Pritchard

099-202 04/099-902 04 "Alive" - She's incredible! Appart from looking incrediblly hot in that outfit, her voice is amazing! She probably has the best song of the night! It's a really intense performance and it must make it to the andra chansen, if not the finals. Very powerful! And that high note at the end was superb! She's no my fave, definitely!

Anders Fernette

099-202 05/099-902 05 "Run" - He's cute! His voice is good but it's just that, he's a decent singer. The song sucks, not catchy at all. The dancers are good and he's nice to watch but a song like this one won't win Eurovision, or Melodifestivalen.

Linda Bengtzing

099-202 06/099-902 06 "E de fel på mig" - Linda looks great! Love the long hair and that yellow dress. The song is good, I like it. It's fun, dynamic and doesn't have the disco vibe that most of this songs do, it has some disco influence but it's not a strong one. Her voice sounds amazing and it's an original sound. This is a great contender for the win. And the fireworks ar the end were cool!

Nicke Borg

099-202 07/099-902 07 "Leaving Home" - OH!! I wasn't expecting this at all! I really, really, like him. And I was hoping to hate him. His voice sounds very unique, almost like if he wasn't meant to be a singer, it's almost powerless, but in a good way. He's an emotional tatooed ponytail guy with an unique soft voice, oh, and with a cross earring. Like this a lot. Simple, different and well sang. And finally someone has stepped away from disco cliches!!! Probably my fave.

Love Generation

099-202 08/099-902 08 "Dance Alone" - LOVE THEM! They are an improved Girls Aloud, well, they are so much better, and it's a bad comparisson, maybe you could say Girls Aloud are like them but worse, yeah, that will fit this better. They are incredible dancers and have lots of musical talent. I like the black girls voices better but the others aren't bad at all. The song isn't good, if I'm honest, but it's fun and I know swedes will love this girls, after all they are really disoc-ish!

X Factor Denmark 2011: Top 7 Perform: Danish Hits since 2000!

The contestants will be singing Danish hit songs from 2000 and on. I won't say I'm excited about this theme because I don't understand danish songs but I know bong will! He's back again, and will be throughout the season! Who will impress me tonight and make me like a danish song? ... It's time to face the music!

Ratings, comments and videos after the JUMP ...

(bong) I will say a little bit about these Danish hits and composers. About the Danish hits: Needless to say that means they were hits in Denmark. We envy the swedes and their succes; it is quite difficult for a Danish composer or performer to "make it big" outside Denmark. We have not got much more than AQUA to brag about, and nothing that compares with ABBA and Roxette. A select handful of singers have had a huge success in Germany years back (with pop songs in German), and some bands have tried to get out in the USA. A few bands have enjoyed some success in Japan. Maybe it's the language? I watched a program, it seems a country's most succesful composers write in a way that resembles the rhythm (a.o.) of the language. Maybe Swedish is easier on foreign ears? Just maybe....

(bong) On stage today will also be Nik & Jay, a Danish duo. They released their first album in 2002 and were instantaneously very succesful. The lyrics were not very impressive, to be honest, but the music was quite catchy. They have developed. Nick & Jay are allowed to kick of tonight's show with one of their old tunes, whereupon the speaker mentions some of the biggest new names in the past decade.

"De Første kærester På Månen" (TV-2) - 8/10 This is a nice song. Really soft and downtempo, different from what we've been hearing from Babou. Love how he sings the chorus. High and then low. He hits the notes beautifully and really delivers in this one. Babou is gaining me slowly, he seems more relaxed and really in the zone. I hate saying that I like him but I do. I still won't like him winning or near the final. He can make it till the Top 4 but not further ...

(bong)  7/10  "The First Lovers On The Moon" (TV-2). TV2 has been the great music train in Danish rock for the past decades. They come from my hometown, Århus (Aarhus), where Babou also lives. The texts, written by singer Steffen Brandt, can be quite tricky when you analyze them, but always relevant. They have produced incredibly many hits over the years, and they always attract spectators when they perform. The lyrics go: "I thought we were to be the first lovers on the moon."

(bong) Cutfather praises Babou and his singing voice: He can reach "the high C, and then some, in full voice" (ed.: as opposed to falsetto) and Cutfather urges us to sing along in the homes. Babou: "This is a good story — with a pop tune. And I thought it would be fun to change that." Pernille: "This was several grades above last week. Very touching. And risky. Blachman: "The rop register is very moving."

"Natteravn" (Rasmus Seebach) - 4/10 I like you guys but this just wasn't your night. The song was really wrong for them, Pernille made a horrible decision on this one. They don't work for disco/electro music, they are good on pop and cool on RnB but not for this. Yikes. Horrible singing and styling. They are probably the worst tonight.

(bong)  5/10  "Night Hawk" (Rasmus Seebach). Seebach, the son of another succesful composer, has become quite popular in the past few years. He was quite reluctant to go in that direction at first. The song is (on the surface) about insomnia. The singer is touring the city during the night, looking for the unknown love of his life who always slips away.

(bong) Pernille: "JR are pretty sensitive guys. I was wondering... is there any bad boy in them?" We see some clips from Tårnby where they live. Rudi's family lives in Malmö (Sweden), but he moved in with Jakob for the duration of the competition. It is easier to focus and practice when you are together like that. Cutfather: "You have the charm and the energy. I am still uncertain about the voices..." Blachman: "Well, you have done something different, focusing more." Pernille: "Listen: You cannot learn x factor. You guys have it!"

"Splittet Til Atomer" (Kashmir) - 9/10 Annelouise looks hot tonight! Love the hair like that! This is my fave so far. She delivered with emotion and I felt her passion and that she really believed in what she was singing. This is another song I may check afterwards. Vocal perfection. She also plays the harmonica!!! Amazing! She's now my fave! Well, after Patricia.

(bong) 7/10  "Split Into Atoms" (Kashmir). The band took its name from a Led Zeppelin tune, my favorite band, and I play that zep-tune myself, so plus points and high expectations. Fortunately Kashmir can live up to it, they are really good, and very popular. They can play pretty hard, but this song is quite relaxed. It was written to be used as a jingle for a radio program.

(bong)Blachman informs us that this night's songs have to be in Danish (not only written by Danes). I did not know that, but it makes sense. "This is a pearl. Listen to the text!" I keep thinking Blade Runner and replicants doing saltos when I see Annelouise, I cannot help it since her Nephew performance. No pitch problem today as far as I could hear. Cutfather: "You crawled under my skin." Pernille: "Agreed. It's all about fitting the songs with the singer." Blachman: "One of the most fantastic things about this program is that you get to play a pearl like this tune to two million viewers."

"Superliga" (Nephew) - 7/10  Rasmus is one of my faves since last week, so I hope he impresses me. He died his hair again, much better ... This is a song I've really liked, it's catchy and I like the english/danish mix, I may even try Nephew after this! His vocals were good, not perfect but ok. The moves were fun to watch but the sexiness didn't worked in this performance, the dancing wasn't for this song. I liked how he performed but I think the dancing didn't fit this song.

(bong)  5/10  "Super League" (Nephew). Oh, yes! My favorite. Nephew is a peculiar band. They often mix Danish and English lyrics. That may sound like a cheap trick, and I was taken aback at first, but it actually works well.

(bong) Cutfather: "At 16 Rasmus has found out what kind of singer he wants to be." We see clips from Rasmus' life in Kirke Såby. Then he comes out. Big smile. There are some weaknesses in the voice. Pernille: "I never thought I would experience the mating of The Nephews and Chippendales. This was not your best vocal performance." Blachman: "You are allowed to be a little more vain about your vocal. A little showoffy, try some things."

Rikke og Trine

"Kun For Mig" (Medina) - 6/10 There's something wrong with them. They are back with the unison thing and it sounds as boring as it always does. They are much better when they don't do this the whole performance, aka, last week's performance. Their vocals are good, that's why the 6, but the performance overall was really, really, really boring. If the audience hasn't started clapping I think I would have died, from boredom.

(bong)  7/10  "Only For Me" (Medina). Medina is one of the most popular female singers in Denmark these days. She was also on stage in the x factor finale last year, performing with the winner, Thomas. Medina is a brilliant singer and performer, but not really my thing (my fault, I guess), and this tune has been played over and over. I guess it's the right choice for the twins. Oh, and whatever you do, Rikke og Trine, is fine with me. Take some chances. Move.

(bong) Pernille: "I have listened and learned" (ed. referring to last week's drama) "Our song choice might be called predictable. But we have adapted it!" Pictures from the twin's life. Their parents have divorced. They live in Copenhagen with their mother, but now they are visiting their father. Walking the dogs. Excerpt from Medina's text: "I am feeling good. I hear only music. No man can trick me here. So now the music plays only for me." It's a "You done me wrong"-song. The arrangement is very low key, and the beat, which is prominent in the original, only comes in towards the end. There is an eerie string (also towards the end) which to me resembled a balalaika; I think it's made with an electric guitar. Very interesting, I liked it. Blachman: "Now you are back on track. Now we can hear your voices." Cutfather: "Sometimes when you hit it it makes my hairs stand. Magic." Pernille: "We are beginning to find the right formula."

"Engel" (Rasmus Seebach) - 7,5/10  I've nothing against her, her sexuality or homosexual people but this has to stop. What is she wearing?!! If I didn't know she was a girl, I'd think she's a man. Seriously! That tank has to go and be burned. Going to her singing, she sounds amazing! This song really fits her, it's exactly the type of music she should sing, not the trainwreck she did back in week 1. I love her raspy tone and guitar playing. This is the best I've seen from her. Looking forward to next week!

(bong)  7/10  "Angel" (Rasmus Seebach). That Seebach fellow again! :-) Sarah was last weeks top performer for me. She has a place on the stage, but the song has to be right for her.

(bong) Cutfather: "One of the most influential American blogs wrote favorably about her performance." Ha! I told you! Sarah: "Rasmus Seebach has heard my version, and he thought it was cool." "Engel" means angel, and it's about a girl. They have turned it into a balad. I like it. Pernille: (Sarah is glowing with joy) "I hope the other contestants are watching. You have will power! You are completely unimpressed! It is so easy for you!" Lise Rønne: "Is it really?" Sarah: "No...". Pernille: "You are an inspiration to others. Blachman: "You do all the right things. 80% personality plus a good voice." Cutfather: "You were my wild card. I am so proud of you. I have received serious beating: Why not choose Ericka? Why not Jean Michel?"

"Uden hinanden" (Julie Maria) - 9,5/10 She has her hair down and is wearing a hot dress, which she designed!! Is there something she can't do? She's just perfect! This performance is my favourite of the night, as expected. She's much better than last week, which I think was shacky, and is really delievering. She sings this song beautifully in a really soft tone. Love her phrasing and althought I can't understand anything, I'm feeling this! She's got to be my favourite contestant ever ... Patricia definitely has a record deal coming ...

(bong)(7/10)"Without Each Other" (Julie Maria). The song comes from a tv series for children, a "Christmas calendar" (it's a Danish tradition, a new episode is aired every day from December 1 through 24).

Patricia comes out with her hair down for once. At first glance I could mistake her for another danish singer (Søs Fenger). It's a pretty tough song to sing, very interesting. I have to check up on the lyrics. Judged by this performance I think she should pass, but it's impossible to control the votes. Cutfather: "Amazing what the stylists can manage." Lise Rønne: "But the dress is your own creation, right?" Patricia confirms. (Yup, because Patricia, our favorite contestant, is an artist, and her talent creeps into other art forms. I have watched videos, both the official ones and her vlog, and if you don't understand Danish, oh boy, your are missing out. That girl is hilarious! In a good way, she is excercising her funny bones. Impeccable timing when delivering a punch line.) Cutfather continues with some comments about combining the sexy look with children's song. I must say I find that totally irrelevant. Pernille: "This is difficult. I acknowledge what you are trying to achieve. I had some ideas about Vanessa Paradis." Blachman: "It is a song which the mother sings to her child." Lise Rønne: "So, Patricia —Did it feel like you were singing to your child?" (her son is in the audience) Patricia: "Oooooh... Lise. I don't know about that...." [NOTE: I need to find and read the lyrics, then I will make an update.]

(bong) Nick and Jay - They perform their new single. It's quite groovy, funny lyrics. I don't think I will ever become a fan, but they are better than I remember them.
Here we are again. Both names belong to Pernille, so the other judges will leave it to her to decide. Blachman: "I have always been over the moon for you two." (Rikke og Trine) Cutfather: "JR, you burn for this thing. Rikke og Trine, you have something magical. I vote JR ... for political reasons." The only question is if Pernille will vote tactically (for instance, if she judges that JR would get further), or musically, because I am sure she likes the twins performance better. And honestly, I cannot believe she would vote against her musical preferences. As always ... they have ... to ... drag it ... ooouuut. The deciding judge has to find the right way to formulate his or her reason. Pernille: "JR, you have so much energy. You have the best style. But there were some problems tonight. Your voices could not find each other. There were no problems during the rehearsals. Rikke og Trine, wonderfully sung. I don't know why you are standing here. JR, you want it so much. Rikke og Trine, you are not really believing it yet. That you can do it. But you have proven that tonight. I vote for Rikke og Trine to continue."
I give everybody 5 or 7 points today. 5 is failed, and 6 is passed, but only just. It is very difficult to not be prejudiced.

Melodifestivalen 2011: Deltävling (Semi-final) 3: Linköping

The third semi-final is on and 8 more acts will fight for two places at the final or get a second chance in the "Andra Chancen" round. Who will be the ultimate winner? As you know, the channel eliminates all the advancing acts videos, so they will be posted until they are eliminated. You also have the VOTING NUMBERS to vote for your favourite act! The first number costs 3.60 kr and the second 9.90 kr., don't know why yet, if someone knows please tell me.

Watch the videos, read my comments and see who is advancing to the final after the JUMP ...

Linda Sundblad

099-202 01/099-902 01 "Lucky You" - This song reminds me of something, don't know what it is tough. I like Linda but she's not performing well tonight. The song is disgusting and her voice is sounding pretty sharp and annoyingly thin. Maybe with a different song she would have done much better, cause this wasn't good. Still, the song is a bit catchy ...

Simon Forsberg

099-202 02/099-902 02 "Tid att andas" - This looked like a traiwreck even before it started. I don't like this guy at all! The song is tad boring and his voice is really plain. He could work for jazz, or even for classical music but this isn't his strenght. Bad attempt at a slow song. I'm actually greateful he made the attempt not going disco but this was bad.

Sara Lumholdt

099-202 03/099-902 03 "Enemy" - Ouch ... She started really offtune.  She improved a bit towards the chorus but she actually never got there. She never reached the place she wanted to get. She reminds me of a bad contestant on an Idol show. She's not good enough, sorry. Or maybe it's the song, which sucks. And I was hoping to like this ...

The Playtones

099-202 04/099-902 04 "The King" - OMG! I was expecting nothing but a trainwreck but this is damn great!!! They've got a bluesy country thing going on but it also sounds kind of disco. The singer is great when he's not singing the chorus, which is disgusting. The rest of the song is amazing, the piano burning thing and the no instrument part were cool. Like this very much. My new faves? Not sure but they are really incredible!

Shirley's Angels

099-202 05/099-902 05 "I Thought It Was Forever" - Not sure about this. They have amazing voices and some good dance moves but the song sounds plain. Don't like it at all. They could be so much better with something different! The worst part is that they have sick vocals!! Major fail, that wasn't good.

099-202 06/099-902 06 "No One Else Could" - This isn't good. He seems really cocky onstage and that doesn't work for anyone. The song is hedious and his voice is nothing special. He has some good moments but there are more bad ones. The end was better, actually only one or two lines.  Overall, a failed attempt of going cliche and trying to do yet another disco song.

Sara Varga

099-202 07/099-902 07 "Spring för livet" - Oh my!! This is so sweet! Sara's got a jazzy voice, very soft and fresh. This song is also really unique, not the type you will hear in Mello. She's also the best dressed of the night for sure! I've fallen in love with her! And she made swedish sound beautiful, I'm not a fan but after this I want more!! Beautiful!

Eric Saade

099-202 08/099-902 08 "Popular" - I'm not convinced with this. He's a good singer and has a big tone. He's also a great, and cute, dancer. But I'm not getting this song, why writing a song talking about popularity?! What a boring and superficial theme! The glass breaking thing was cool. He may be in based on cute votes and the fact that he's actually a good singer ...

Loving some name spoiled so far. Casey Abrams and Rachel Zevita are incredible. Brett Loewenstern, Jacee Badeaux and Lauren Alaina are very predictable and I think they are a bit too young, maybe Jacee and Lauren are, cause Brett is ready. As for Pia Toscano and Karen Rodriguez! Didn't expected them through!! Karen was cool and so is Pia but they haven't been shown much. Jovany Barreto in is horrible! I would have cut the guy right away on the audition. Jordan Dorsey is a great singer but his Hollywood bitchy attitude may get voters down. I think this two are fodders. Lauren Turner's addition is amazing! She's an incredible singer and have the pipes to belt big ballads. Scotty McCreery will never be near my favourites, he's just a one trick pony, always singing in the same tune. James Durbin is another obvious choice for the Top 24 but I think he's singing is overrated, he's too screamy! Also in is Kendra Campbell, who, from which I remember hasn't been shown much but she's got a good country voice! Clint Gamboa is a good singer but I'm not liking him this season, there are plenty of better singers. Ashton Jones was first featured on Hollywood solos and she was one of the most impressing thing of that night, as we see, she's got amazing vocals! Julie Zorilla, Naima Adedapo and Robbie Rosen were front runners since their auditions, so it's no surprise the tree of them have advanced. Jacob Lusk has been featured in Hollywood, so there's no doubt he's in. And the amazing Paul McDonald, who has nodes in his throat is also in! Incredible! Thia Megia and Haley Reinhart had to be in the Top 24! Both are incredible singers and have proved that have what it takes, what's left is both of them making the Top 13! I'm uncertain about Tim Halperin, he's a good singer but it's exactly the type of contestants they need to avoid if they don't want another WGWG winning the show!

The cuts are ok for now. Chris Medina was an average singer and I'm glad he's not through based on his story. And Jessica Cunningham, well, she's tried for years and hadn't made it, I would have like her style and rocky vibe in the finals but maybe next year ... Eryn Kelly was never shown and I think she would have been pretty average. John Wayne Schulz was just too country for the show, they never succeed in the liveshows. Can't believe Hollie Cavanagh was cut! She was such an amazing contestant! Jackie Wilson was cut!!! The most unfair decision of the season! Can't believe this! She was definitely a Top 12 contestant! I still hope for a wildcard but that's almost impossible. Lakeisha Lewis was possibly DSQ and since we never saw her, we really don't care about her.

Is Beatles night and the 8 remaining contestants will fight for your votes to stay in the competition singing one of the best songbooks ever released! Season 1 4th placer, Basim, is back to where he started to sing his new single. bong is back again, and will be throughout the season! Who will fail to impress tonight? ... It's time to face the music!

Ratings, comments and videos after the JUMP ...

"Drive My Car" - 10/10 OMG!!! This may probably be one of the best performances we've seen in the season! The beggining was in a whole different league, really interesting phrasing and tone! He's voice is dinamic and he's a damn good performer! Rasmus is far superior from many acts here and is now one of my favourites, right after Patricia!

(bong)  7/10  Rasmus tells us that he does not have any close relation with The Beatles, so this is a bit of a challenge for him. But he makes a good and very authentic show, completely with the microphone and all. Blachman: "Good choice of song. Very fresh, you sing well." (And some advice.) Pernille: "It's going pretty well for you today. I notice the little improvements. A kind of 'cry' in the light notes. Pretty well done..." Cutfather: "Pretty well done??" Both Pernille and Blachman correct themselves, it was very well done.

Rikke og Trine

"Here Comes the Sun"8/10 Oh yeah!! They aren't singing in unison the whole performance!! That's what I'm talking about! See how you have improved? This was one of the best performances! They shown that they can sing solo and also have really good voices, which sound much better than when they are in unison. Their harmonies are lovely and I wasn't bore for the first time!!! An act that has grown a lot on me!

(bong)  8/10  Blachman: "Rikke og Trine may be unique on a global scale. There is an element of Norse mythology." The twins feel very much on their home turf playing Beatles. "It makes you happy!" There was no sound on the first line, but... Hooray! The twins are harmonizing!

The one in the yellow (Rikke) is lead in the beginning. Later they switch. It does create some controversy among the judges, both Blachman and Cutfather find that it is a step back. (Blachman did ask for some non-unison singing last week.) But it as I hear it, it's more because of the parts where one is singing and the other is not. I am a little uncertain.

Cutfather: "Not so crazy about the parts where you sang apart from each other." Blachman and Cutfather agree that it was too much like a public school. Blachman: "It was too violently orchestrated. Slow it down. Make it more melancholic." Pernille: "This is what people have been demanding: To hear them sing apart, to hear them sing different parts."

It had to be. I have mentioned this before, groups are very different from single acts, because if one in the group is off-key and the other on the wrong beat, everything falls apart, so a duo faces a tougher task than single acts. But then, when it works, it can be wonderful, and it can give them an edge over the single acts. The Fireflies from last year really had it going for them (they still have). So when we request that the groups (especiallly the twins) harmonize, it's simply because, you (potentially) have that weapon — so use it! You won't see Babou or Annelouise doing harmonies alone. It can't be done live.

Apparently it was a big challenge for them. Of course! Harmonizing is something you have to study. I am glad Pernille could persuade them. Now they have begun that journey, they survived the vote off, and it will eventually expand their music. I can't wait to see what they will come up with. The key to improving is: Listen intently to each other. I like the girls more and more. I give them 8/10 for this performance, primarily for their courage to break out of their comfort zone. I hope Pernille will keep pushing them to their limits. I hope they will work to their bones to satisfy her.

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - 8/10 I love you but this just wasn't your night. The voice was amazing as always but I can't help thinking that it was off tune. I know that's her singing style but something wasn't right. The song sounded a bit flat and the high notes seemed out of her range. I hope she gets over this one cause she's amazing. Still, I liked it. I know I'm sounding crazy but she's my favourite so I'm really biased on this one. She's got a special charm and style, which I've never seen.

(bong)  7/10  Such a great tune. Patricia makes me want to cover this one. There could be more guitar (a good guitarist on stage), and the rest of the band a little more retreated in the sound; it felt very violent. To me the arrangement had very little relation to the text. I still like her voice very much, although there were some problematic areas. Pernille: "You have a nice vulnerability," and Pernille mentioned some technical things she would like to see in this tune. Cutfather: "You are one of the strongest in the field. A clear character." So all the judges agree on that. We like that here. Blachman: "You are in the top two of all my favorite x factor contestants over all the years." Incidentally: I spotted Tine, a last year's finalist, finished second, on the front row over Blachman's shoulder.

"Can't Buy Me Love" - 6/10 This may sound as if I've gone crazy but I actually liked this performance! His voice sounded much better than in previous performances and he actually pulled some decent big notes. I'll give him props for the good singing! Still think his voice is too girlish but this was an improvement on me.

(bong)  7/10  Babou sings very precisely in the beginning, and a fine ending. I like his moves too, the sweeps across the scene. Blachman: "The song was in a good register when you were upstairs. But the artistic impression was lost when you went down. Less serious. You risk becoming a .. " (he did not say karaoke singer, but I think he meant something like that). Pernille: "Ease up, he is 16!" (Explanatory note: Blachman always sides with the music, with art.) Cutfather: "What is wrong with having some fun?" Blachman: "I was not having fun..."

"Golden Slumbers" - 10/10 She's playing piano. My favourite performance of the night, as well as Rasmus one. She's definitely in her element tonight! Her voice sounds beautiful and her piano skills are really good. This was a really emotional performance and despite some minimal issues, this performance was flawless! Will Annelouise be the last remaining contestant? After this, that has just became a strong possibility!

(bong)  6/10   I thought there was a slight pitch problem in the beginning, but Annelouise sings really well tonight. I am still not crazy about the voice; don't shoot me, that is a question of taste. Pernille: "I am still crazy about your voice." (see? it's individual) "I liked you better today, and with your instrument, you have integrity." Cutfather: "Way above last weeks performance." Blachman: "One guitar was out of tune in the C-part." (I think it's when she sings "You never give me your money") LOL! The band may be having more pitch problems than the contestants tonight; I have heard several ploink-ploink in between the tunes. (I just heard it all again, and I must say, to me there seem to be some pitch problems here and there.)

"Come Together" - 7/10 She's got a school boy look, not sure if that fits her much ... Her voice sounds pretty good but I still thinks she lacks power. This song sounded too flat and she seemed to struggle to hit the high notes. The performance overall was just ok but it still was a major improvement from last week.

(bong)  8/10  Cutfather tells us that Sarah has fans like nobody else. Sarah says she wants us to find that she has a quiet side too. And then she comes out! The tune! Wow! She has rhythm. Good show. I loved it. Not bad at all. Todays best performance for me. Blachman: "This is my favorite tune." (not sure if he means favorite Beatles tune) "You may want to check the market prices for sex change operations." :-| Lise Rønne breaks him off: "Blachman, how did she do?" Pernille: "So many have covered this one. It is difficult to take it and play it your own way. But you did it!" Cutfather: "Look at how you developed! From when we first met to now."

"Something" - 2/10 I think I'll never like him, even if he covers all of my favourite songs. He's not nice to look at and his voice bores me as hell! It's not either unique nor dinamic. Pretty monotonous. He also looks uncomfortable and is looking too much at the cameras. Most boring performance ever!

(bong)  5/10   Cutfather: "Ercan is a song talent. That's why he was chosen over DeeVibez." There is a second voice which bothers me during Ercan's performance, it appears to be too dominant. Ercan himself seems a little shaken and out of place and not quite singing at the top of his lungs. Tonights worst performance, if you ask me. Pernille: "It seemed uninspired. Maybe it was too low (ed: the key) for your voice? Or?" Cutfather: "I could not feel you... You were concentrating on the tv cameras, maybe they can feel you at home..." Blachman agrees with Pernille, that the key may have been too low, but "sometimes you have to take a chance, and sometimes there can come a blue note when you go a fourth lower, and especially in A major."

"All You Need Is Love" - 6/10 I liked them in the judges houses but since then, my love for them has been declining. Their vocals are amazingly distinctive and I love how they look as a duo. They aren't singing in unison, well, at least not like last week, cause the chorus is still that way. The performance was good overall, no many vocal faults but pretty boring. The song had no dinamic and they didn't bring much to the show. Hope they improve a lot next week!

(bong)  6/10  The arrangement is very nice. And they sing really well. I thought it was a very precise performance, but with some weaknesses. Cufather: "The chorus was very good. The verse more doubtful. But you have the charm, and for sure x factor." Blachman: "A catastrophe! Pitch problems." (I did not hear that, normally I am wearing a headset, but not today.) Pernille: "Forget about that! You did well." (About Blachman: It's the same as when he commented on Babou, he sides with music and art. It must not be irrelevant. That may be what he thinks.)

The Verdict

(bong)  I sure know how to pick them. Last week I said either Patricia or DeeVibez would be the ultimate victor. DeeVibez went, and now Patricia is in the danger zone together with Ercan. However, this is a no-brainer: Patricia to continue. There are two possibilities: The two at the bottom "belong" to the same judge, or to two different judges. If two different judges, the judges always go with their guy, and the final decision is left to the third judge, as in last weeks program when Cutfather let Ercan stay over DeeVibez. This time it's two of the adults, so Cutfather will vote for Ercan, and Pernille for Patricia (because that fits with their previous stated preferences), and Blachman has to make the decision, and Blachman will choose Patricia. Blachman has no doubt given it some thought already, I expect the judges have prioritized their acts. The only question is how long he will drag it out, and how he will break it.

And so it goes, but not without some drama. Cutfather: "Well, I am probably not going to be the deciding vote in this, but..." and he votes for Patricia to go home. Pernille: "First I want to state that this has been a scandalous program! There has not been a lot of constructive feedback. I don't want to see crying contestants on their way to the dressing room." (she is referring to Blachman and the things he said during the program.) Blachman begins by taking the full blame for arranging Ercan's tune the way he did and for any damage that may have brought about. "But I just say things as I find them." Pernille is still wound up: "Don't get me started!" Finally getting to the decision. "... music ... intensity... It is not a difficult decision. I seek intensity, nerve. Ercan, you tell me you were on a bootcamp earlier, one I can't even remember. But you have worked very hard and developed since then. But what is good style? Patricia, you are insanely good style." So Patricia continues, and Ercan gets to go home.

I hope Ercan takes it well. This is a contest, the prize is a record deal, and there is only one winner. It does not matter if he finishes second, or as now, number two in the show. It does not mean that he is "worse" than any contestant who finishes later. More people voted for other contestants, and Blachman finds Patricia better. That's it.

Last week Ercan was saved by Cutfather, who is a very succesful producer; he has worked with the best of names. That was a big complement. He might have been thinking: This is about a record deal. Would I sign a contract with this name? Or that name? How much work is involved in producing a cd that I can be proud of? If that was his thinking (I have no way of telling, of course), then he found Ercan more "ready" than DeeVibez (though I still think they could have developed during the contest).

Ercan is not a bad singer. Being an x factor contestant will benefit him immensely in his musical carreer. He has been judged as a potential candidate by three competent judges.

Next week

(bong)  Danish hit songs from after 2000!

I'm back once more with some amazing contestants on the dutch XF! Rating have gone up since the premiere, previous shows ranking #4 and #5 with 1.469.000 and 1.540.000 viewers respectively, so props for that!. This is just a recap of the highlights, meaning that contestants who weren't speciallly good are not going to be featured. All contestants posted here have moved on to bootcamp.

Read my recap and watch the videos after the JUMP ...

Caroline - She's spanish. Oh! Big voice! She hits many big notes, nobody was expecting such voice. I'm uncertain about her. She definitely has the voice but I'm doubty about her performing abilities. With some coaching, she could be good ...

Leslie - She enters with "Firework", don't know why. She sings "Ave Maria", really nice. She's got a nice tone and phrasing. Not the most unique voice I've heard but she's good, interesting vocals. I can see her doing really well in the liveshows.

Ramona - Nice diva vocals, big ones. Don't see her in the liveshows but she'll make it far, maybe judges houses. She's got a Whitney vibe, she's a good one.

Sway - They have loads of energy! I'd like them nearer on stage, so we could see all of them at the same time. Well, they do that later. The dancing is fun. Their vocals aren't the best, they need some improvement, they aren't the best at harmonizing but it can all get better. I'll give them a second chance.

Valentina - OMG!! She looked really uncomfortable but when she opened her mouth it was all greatness! Amazing tone and phrasing. Really like her voice. She scrwed some notes and Gordon make us all notice that, but she's got a beautiful voice. She nailed that acapella part! She's one of the best today.

Tom and Mitch - They are a cute boy duo. Yikes. Their voices are meh, not amazing, just decent. "Blond" guy has a better voice, nicer tone but I don't like this duo. They don't work well together, they sound offtune but tweens will love them, so they are in!

Dennis - Mmm ... He's a ... rocker? Looks wierd on stage, his head movements are cool! OMG! What a voice!! Wasn't expecting that! Sounds really grunge, metally but still rock. Amazing falsetto and he hit all the big notes! He's the best guy I've seen! Incredible!! Want more from him.

Daan - He's singing a Ronan Keating song. Not liking him, he's too boyband. His voice is ok but he's too cheesy, too cursi. It's a no from me. But judges seem to like his sweet voice, so he's in.

Karolina - She's from Poland. Oh my! She's my fave! Best for last! Raspy deep voice. She reminds me a lot to Lisa Lois. Crowd goes crazy, she's certainly amazing. Vocal trycs were crazy and her voice sounded really unique, she's really near the liveshows!

X Factor Netherlands 2011: Auditions 3 Highlights

I'm back once more with some amazing contestants on the dutch XF! This is just a recap of the highlights, meaning that contestants who weren't speciallly good are not going to be featured. All contestants posted here have moved on to bootcamp.

Read my recap and watch the videos after the JUMP ...

Annemiek Lubbers - She started quite shy and insecure but hell girl! You've got some big pipes!! The chorus was amazing, she really delivered and pulled out some amazing notes! Never expected that! Love her!

Aparna Gulati - She's dutch born but is from Mumbai, India. She's got a Bollywood style. Oh!!! That's english?! Judges seem to love it. Her voice is really cool and she's a fun performer, I'll actually say I liked it. Still, this won't do well in the liveshows, one week would work properly but 11? Not sure ... Maybe with a normal song she'll do great!

Bruin Broodje Kaas - They can definitely sing but I'm not so sure about them, they don't seem together. Their voices aren't that special either. They are just a good group with three good singers but with no uniqueness.  Still, I really liked the last part, where they rapped a bit, maybe they could do an all rap performance!

Carla de Bruine - Love how  powerful is her voice but she's too uncertain about her gift. She needs some training and I don't think bootcamp or even judges houses will do that. She may need to go to a singing teacher and try next year, cause she certainly can sing!

Elisa Sintjago - She's got the look but I'm not sure about the voice. She can sing but I just don't like it. Her voice is too common and typical, not uniqueness in her tone or phrasing, just another good singer which will go unnoticed if ever released an album.

Cinzia - She has lost a lot of weight, a lot but still has some more to loose. Love the short red hair! OMG!! What an amazing voice! Really unique audition! She has a pretty interesting tone, very similar to indie artists, let's say Julia Stone but can also sing some powerful notes! I loved this girl!!

Huub - He's got a problem in one of his arms, that's why he doesn't move it but I don't know what he has, that's why I need a translator!!! He's singing "Somebody to Love" and he's nailing it! One of the best auditions tonight and probably the biggest voice also! He nailed every single note, even the last thin note! Best so far? Probably ...

Jamila - She reminds me a lot to Sumera! They have similar looks and voices. I really, really like her! She is my favourite from the night! Sweet smooth voice, a blend of blues and RnB. The best I've seen in a while, she could really make the finals if she keeps singing like this!

Jose Bueno Perez - He's got a really pleasant smooth sweet voice. Very, very nice. He sang that song incrediblly and he really connected with it. This may not be my favourite type of contestant but I won't be angry if he reaches the liveshows cause he sings beautifully.

NTR - Pronunced Enter. A very glee-ish performance. They missed some parts of the lyrics at the beggining and they aren't the best in english but they really delivered a fun performance and it was really good vocally, some minor faults but very good overall. I see future in them!

One Way - The red shirted guy sings good, the other, not so much. They are a typical boy duo. They relay basically on their looks and not on their voices. They aren't the best singers but there were some good moments. They aren't liveshow level tough.

Rochelle Perts - She's the dutch black Cher Lloyd!!! OMG!! I love her! She's singing the same audition song Cher did and in the same rappy style! Not to be mean but is she copying Cher? Not sure ... Her voice is certainly bigger and better than Cher's and she's got her same attitude. She could follow Cher steps and do great in this competition, one of the best I've seen!
