Cheryl Cole dropped from The X Factor USA

As Cheryl Cole remains tight lipped about her axe from the X Factor USA, rumours surrounding her sacking are still doing the rounds and the latest one invloves the claim that fellow X Factor USA judge Paula Abdul, made Cheryl's life "hell".

Despite having pictures taken together and apparent mutual admiration for each other, it appears as though it was a whole different story behind the scenes.

According to Now, a source revealed: "Paula didn't take to Cheryl at all and treated her like they were in high school. She completely blanked her and pretended not to know anything about her. Cheryl was supposed to sit next to Simon, but Paula threw a tantrum and Simon backed down."

Did Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul's closeness push Cheryl out? (read about it here)

The source added: "Paula was really passive aggressive and she said things to Cheryl like: 'That's an interesting outfit - you have unusual style'. But Cheryl didn't help herself either. Instead of playing up to Paula, she took the bait and she was cold towards her when the cameras were off.

"Cheryl has told pals she feels there was a conspiracy to make her life as difficult as possible
on the set. It was things like the crew and production people constantly going: "Huh?" and "What?" at everything she said when the network bosses were around."

It is also thought that days before Cheryl's axing became public, the star was told that she had to be "more combative with Paula in auditions.

"She tried her best, but every time she piped up someone - usually Paula - would say they didn't understand her. Cheryl was fuming and she confronted Paula about her bitchy attitude. They had an explosive row with insults flying everywhere."

We think it's about time Cheryl Cole spoke out about what really happened?

If you think of a harpist, you probably picture an old lady in the corner of an orchestra performing a classical symphony with a bunch of much older musicians. Well, this is certainly not the case here! Habiba is not your typical harpist. Combining the harp with her folk soulish voice to make contemporary songs is genius. With a little more promotion and the release of her debut album coming, this one could be a hit and I hope it's one, we need more artists like Habiba nowadays.

Read the interview, buy and check her music after the JUMP ...

*How would you define yourself as an artist?
I'm a singer-songwriter with a harp.

*Who would you name as your biggest influence? / What is your dream collaboration?
So many influences! I've been very inspired by Hanne Hukkelberg. "Little Things" is my all-time favorite record. I love the way she uses her voice; both fiercely and angelic, the playful and surprising arrangements of her songs and the lyrics, contemplative, charming and sometimes critic. I think you'll definitely hear her influences in my songwriting. Other influences are Thom Yorke, Patrick Watson, Midlake and Kaki King. I absolutely adore Thom Yorke's solo album “The Erasor”. I love the sounds on that album. Patrick Watson for his dreamy feel and exciting build up in his songs; from simple 3/4 pop tunes to exhilarating classical arrangements and back within one song in a very natural way. Midlake got me listening to their "Courage of Others" for almost a year! I was blown away by the beautiful layered yet harmonious compositions and their lyrics about mankind versus nature and society and the nostalgic feel of this record really speaks to me. Kaki King inspired me with her earlier records like: "legs to make us longer" and "Everybody Loves You". No harpist in the world ever inspired me to get good at playing harp, but after listening to this brilliant guitarist I really wanted to become a better harpist and get the most out of my harp playing!

My dream collaboration? I would love to tour with Midlake. Add even more strings to their songs and sing second voice here and there. Or a duet with Thom Yorke! That would be heaven!

*So you play the harp, why did you start playing it?
My mother always wanted to play harp, and my father build her a Celtic harp from scratch so she could do so. My mother gave me my first lessons after teaching herself from a book. Then we both took lessons from a real harp teacher! It was kind of natural for me to start playing the harp. I don't remember being interested in playing anything else.

*How hard is it to create a melody with a harp?
The harp is kind of like the piano. Everything is there right in front of you, and possibilities are endless. Sometimes I start singing a new melody while cycling through Amsterdam. Then I try to find the right chords on the harp that go along with it, twist and turn them until I think the harmonies are exciting, and while doing that I tend to start composing more and more harp elements to the song both melodic and rhythmical. And sometimes it's the other way around. Then I'm just playing around with an element that I heard that inspired me (usual rhythmically) till it ends up being a perfect base for a verse or chorus. I start building the song up from there, humming along with it until I find an interesting melody.

*You just said you started writing while biking through Amsterdam, is this true?
Yes, I always sing while biking through Amsterdam and over time I came up with a lot of pieces of melodies that needed accompaniment. Then one day I decided to try to use my harp skills for this!

*What have you done to improve your skills?
Well, my harp skills didn't need much of improvement for playing my songs. When something is hard to play I just repeat that little part a thousand times until I can. I had to practice a lot on singing and playing at the same time in the beginning. That can be challenging. I have to be aware that sometimes the movement of my arms can affect my vocal space. My singing on the other hand was not good at all in the beginning. I had no control over my voice and difficulties with the high notes and getting hoarse after an hour of singing. I found myself a great singing teacher and after years of trying to learn a good technique I'm singing what I’m hearing in my head. (Most of the time)

*What unique qualities do you think the harp brings to your music?
Well, the tone to start with. With my pedal harp I can use an enormous range from warm long and deep tones to sparkling high tones.Compared to the guitar I can use much more tones at the same time, compared to the piano I like the fact that you can hear my fingers touching the strings. With my pedal harp I like the fact that I can easily play all kinds of strange chords (did you know the pedal harp is perfectly suitable for jazz and blues?), with the Celtic harp the sound is higher and brighter and the chords I use with this harp stay in one key which makes the songs more folky/Celtic.

*Your obviously not a classical act, how do you make it contemporary while playing such a classic instrument?
I use a lot of jazz chords when making songs on my pedal harp and always try to use nice pop or jazz rhythms.

*Why did you quit studying at the Conservatory of Amsterdam?
I was 19 at the time and found it very hard to lock myself up all day to study while the big world was full of adventure! Since I came from a young talent class I had the feeling I had never made the decision to commit to this truly. Then after the first year it became clear that I completely lacked the passion for the classical repertoire. When I decided to quit it felt like a big weight was lifted from my shoulders.
Five years later I missed making music, got my harp back to Amsterdam and started writing songs with my harp.

*In 2007 you won the Mooie Noten, how did it feel?
Before that I had no idea if what I was doing had potential and was worth improving at the first place. Winning this price gave me the confidence to go and make some more music!

*You went on to release your first EP in 2008, tell me more about "Jewellery Box" ...
The songs were all reveling harmless secrets you tend to keep for yourself. Lock them up in your jewellery box, or wear them with pride!

*What's the concept behind "Sweet Talk"?
Love smiling at people, love being smiled at, love enjoying and using my femininity. Nothing harmful; just in a “tong in cheek” kind of way.

*And behind "Queen"?
The day I wrote that song I was being grateful for being able to wake up alone in my queen sized bed, look outside and welcome the spring; full of promise of great things, and spending all day playing harp and singing, being my own employer. Like a Queen. For me that is what true wealth is all about. Having the freedom to spend the days of your live doing the things you feel passionate about.

*Are you releasing any new material soon?
Yessss! I have tons of new songs and I really want to make a great debut album this year. I have been playing around with many ideas about how it is supposed to sound but I think I've figured it out roughly and now it's definitely time to cut the knot and take action!

*How can we expect it to be?
Contemplative songs, layered vocals, of course a lot of harp, some instrumental parts here and there, upright base and light percussion at the base of the songs, some electronic sounds to spice it up (like the demo song of 2010 "Tip Toe") And some nice string parts here and there.

*So what are your plans from now on?
I'm planning to make a promo video in June in which I talk about making music and what inspires me. And I'll be doing a lot of demo recording for the record. I like to arrange all songs myself on the computer to get an idea of what does or does not work.

X Factor Netherlands 2011: Top 5 Perform: Summer Jam

I'M LOOKING FOR A DUTCH TRANSLATOR, IF INTRESETED, EMAIL ME

UPDATE: Pyke Pos is cut!! Sim'Ran was in the B2.

Last week, Ed Ruyer was cut in one of the most surprising boots of the season, given that he was a clear frontrunner and one of the favourites since his audition. The problem is that he wasn't delievering, while the other acts kept improving. Tonight, the top 5 will sing once more two songs each, on the Summer Jam theme. Who will be cut tonight? Will be the last girl, over or boy? Or will it be the second group leaving? ... It's time to face the music!

"I Gotta Feeling" (The Black Eyed Peas) - 7,5/10 - Well, I hate this song. One of the worst from them, but I'm confident she can do a great job with it. We've got the rappy vocals and the swagg needed for this song, but she's not nailing it and it's because this song sucks. She showed terrific vocals as always but it wasn't unique. - VIDEO

Pyke Pos

Photobucket

"A Song for You" (Herbie Hancock) - 8/10 - This is sounding terrific! This is exactly the type of performances he should be doing! Jazzy soulful slow tunes. It's really emotional of course. Pyke doesn't have the most unique voice, but he has a really nice tone, almost raspy at times, which make up for what he doesn't have. That was really great. - VIDEO

"Mas que nada"/"Conga" (Jorge Ben/Miami Sound Machine) - 7,5/10 - WTF happened to Angela tonight? Why this songs? They are like the worst songs ever! Yeah, summerish but not good enough for a singing competition. They save this performance from total wreckage cause they are great but if this was Sim'Ran's performance, they coud already be saying goodbye. That was entertaining though.  - VIDEO

Sim'Ran

Photobucket

"Emotion" (Destiny’s Child) - 8/10 - This promises to be good. This will be really vocal focused. Their harmonies sound pretty, though they failed at some. It's actually a really nice performance, if not one of their bests. They are sounding better than ever tonight! It was really beautiful. - VIDEO

Rolf Wienk

Photobucket

"Hero" (Enrique Iglesias) - 8,5/10 - Yeah, the songs suck tonight. I hate Enrique Iglesias, so any song of him will equally suck. Still, this isn't his worst song and the acousitc vibe it has here actually works pretty good. Rolf is doing a really good job with this one. He nailed some of those notes and it was really emotional, not as some of his previous performances which were more fun than feelings. - VIDEO

Round 2

Pyke Pos

Photobucket

"Hey, Soul Sister" (Train) - 7,5/10 - OMG! This songs! You are killing me people! This isn't necessarily bad, his voice sounds good and he hits the notes. The problem with this one, it's too similar to the original, if not a perfect copy. Yeah, he showed a great abilitiy of singing but he didn't make it his own. - VIDEO

Rochelle Perts

Photobucket

"Nothin' on You" (B.o.B feat. Bruno Mars) - 10/10 - This is an amazing song choice for her! Finally! This is one of Rochelle's bests. The slow intimate start in the audience was a great idea. And then fastening it for her to do her usual rappy sound was also great. This is what all of them should be doing! Nailing a song! This was the best so far! - VIDEO

Sim'Ran

Photobucket

"Let's Get Loud" (Jennifer Lopez) - 7/10 - At least they are winning something tonight, worst song choice! This is much better than Jlo's of course but they aren't good when they do this things.  They don't seem to learn! Everytime they go with a dance sound, they end in the bottom. I would expct them doing so again. - VIDEO

Photobucket

"Halo" (Beyoncé) - 10/10 - Yay! A song I love! They are definitely my favourites, if they don't win this thing, I'll hate you dutchies. They've everything! How can you ask for more? The most beautiful performance of the night! That was pure class! Yes, show the other kids how it's done! Amazing!  - VIDEO

Rolf Wienk

Photobucket

"Livin' la Vida Loca" (Ricky Martin) - 6/10 - Oh god! Why Rolf?! This is almost painful. His voice is a mess, he's not hitting most of the notes. I'm hating this, despite I left aside how much I hate this song. This was a night to forget on  the XF, definitely the worst night ever! - VIDEO

Interview: Case Mayfield

What's exactly the meaning of the phrase "Best for Last"? Well, basically to leave with a bang. But, why not starting with one? That's why we're starting with Case Mayfield, a Dutch indie folk musician which may be much more interesting that at first sight. Right now, Case is putting the final touches in his debut album, "The Many Colored Beast", which definitely won't dissapoint. He has a great concept going on and I wouldn't be surprised if his unique apporach takes the world by storm! He's a synesthetic and that only says one word to me, amazing!

Read the interview, watch some videos and buy his music after the JUMP ...

Buy Case's music HERE (NL) or HERE (US).

ME: How would you define yourself as an artist?
Case: I wouldn't
ME: Why?
Case: I'm like a dentist, except I don't want to work with people's teeth. I work with music.
ME: So you are basically saying it's just a job?
Case: No I'm saying It's what I am meant to do. Job or no job, artist or no artist.
ME: You always wanted to be a musician? You knew you were going to be one when you were little?
Case: Yes. And again, wanted to be, I already was.
ME: I see what you mean. You were always around music when growing up?
Case: No, my parents weren't into music.I
ME: Oh, so how did you realize you were a musician?
Case: I don't remember. I've never asked myself questions like that.
ME: (Laughs) Ok. Can you tell us something of your life untill now? Really general ...
Case: That's really hard to do, describing my life until now in a general way. Being born, growing up, dreaming, hating, loving, losing, winning.
ME: (Laughs) That is general. Back to music now ... Would you classify yourself in any genre?
Case: Am i allowed to answer no? (Laughs)
ME: Not really. (Laughs)
Case: Then I'm a person with a guitar.
ME: So would you say you play folk? Soul?
Case: I don't know, that's what they usually call it right? Though I like freak-folk
ME: (Laughs) I like that, and yes, I would classify you as folk.
Case: Then folk it is!
ME: Would you name any influences? Any idols?
Case: Jackson Browne, Ray Lamontagne, Ian Matthews.
ME: Yeah, I see the similarities. A dream collaboration?
Case: Jackson Browne
ME: So tell me, are you working on an album now?
Case: Yes I'm working on an album.
ME: What can you tell me about it? It's concept?
Case: It's called The Many Colored Beast, a line from 4+20 by Stephen Stills. The album is all about colors. When I hear music or look at people I identify them with certain colors, that's how I memorize them. Blue people are sweet, easy going. Blue songs make me wanna fly. Red people are pushy.
ME: Oh, that's a really cool thing! So you are telling me that when you hear music you see colors? Isn't there a name for that?
Case: Yeah It's an autistic disorder thingie or something.
ME: You are autistic?
Case: No. But then again, a crazy person doesn't realize he or she is crazy.
So who knows. Never been to a doctor.
ME: (Laughs) Ok. So when's the album out?
Case: January 1, 2012.
ME: It's independent or are you with a label?
Case: I'm going to sign with a label, after the album is finished.
ME: Is that confirmed? Can you tell which?
Case: Not confirmed, sorry. Or it is, but I can't say. Or something like that. (Laughs)
ME: You wrote all the songs in it?
Case: Yes
ME: Where do you take inspiration for it?
Case: I've got no clue, sorry. It just happens. I like it to be mysterious, unknown, not explained.
ME: So, has there been any singles from the album released yet?I
Case: I don't know. I prefer to release the album as a whole.
ME: Oh, cool, so you'll release the album and then singles from it? Or just the album?
Case: Just the album.
ME: Can you tell us something about any of it's songs? One you are planning to include? Your favourite?
Case: I haven't got a favourite song on the album. There are going to be 11 songs on it. Acoustic and with a band.
ME: What would be the predominant feeling on it? Color maybe?
Case: Colors, yes. Every song has it's own color, it's own feeling.
ME: It's like a rainbow?
Case: Yes.
ME: So, what would be a yellow song?
Case: A song about going to the beach. A song about watching kids play with sticks and dirt trying to build a garden.
ME: Great, so you've got a really good concept built! What about a black one?
Case: Yeah I've got one of those.
ME: I assume that's a sad one ...
Case: Exactly! (Laughs)
ME: I've heard some of your songs, what else can you tell me about "Alright Louise"?
Case: It's about women, being able to do everything, achieving everything.
ME: Will it be on the album?
Case: Yes.
ME: Cool! What color is that one?
Case: Pink.
ME: (Laughs) I was thinking of that one too!
Case: (Laughs) Cool!
ME: So, last one, what can we expect from you in the coming months besides your album? What are your plans from now on?
Case: Trying to get the hell out of Holland (Laughs)
ME: Touring?
Case: Yes, I want to play everywhere. Holland is boring.
ME: (Laughs) Where are you aiming? UK?
Case: Anywhere.
ME: Cool! Well, it was great talking to you! Thanks a lot!
Case: You're welcome.
ME: Ok, bye!
Case: Bye!

UPDATE: 2nde Nature is eliminated!! No more groups left!!! Yay!! Raphaël was B2.

We saw Omega finally leaving last week after a series of horrible performances, so there's only one group left in the competition now. Tonight, all the contestants will sing two songs and it will be epic! Who will face the axe? Will it be Sarah who has already been in the bottom twice? Or will it be someone who has never been there? ... It's time to face the music!

Comments, ratings, videos and translations after the JUMP ...

You may wonder why the video links aren't the same as always, well, the site that used to upload them isn't doing it anymore. I found a new one but they don't upload all of them and their names are mixed up, so if you click on a Florian video and it says it's Marina don't worry, it's Florian, cause I tried them all. I also searched for YouTubes. This is the best I could do, if anyone knows a better site, don't doubt in linking it in the comments.

Round 1

Marina D'Amico

Photobucket

Only Girl (In the World) (Rihanna) - 9/10 - Oh! Marina is copying Rihanna's X Factor UK performance, I'm not saying it's a bad thing though. This is really enjoyable! Her voice sounds incredible in this song and her accent sounds great on English, it makes the songs sound more unique. I love her phrasing and she's proved she's really consistent. There're no off weeks for Marina! Well, this is a really fun show! Lots of dancing, fireworks and staging. This has been one of her most entertaining performances! - VIDEO

P: I know it's not easy to start a show! You sang well,  that's for sure. When Rihanna sings,  she makes us to listen, she captures the attention. I know you try to but you haven't succeded yet! It was not bad tough!
D: Wow! What a great first song!  Bravo! If I was your coach and if I  had to give you some advice, because I love you and you deserve it, I would say hang on Marina , keep the energy til the end, you lost your grip at the end of that song. But it was great!
W: I agree with Veronica, the song is beautiful, I love it, you are vocally at the top but when you do a performance like that, be a little haughty my dear, do spontaneous things.
S: Marina, all I hear is that musically, there's nothing to say! There is undoubtedly progress! I saw the difference between rehearsals and your performance! I see the emergence of a superstar, it needs more work still, you're on the right track, you're growing!  Bravo!

Florian Giustiniani

Photobucket

S.O.S. d'un Terrien en détresse (Daniel Balavoine) - 10/10 -  Florian singing in french is much better than singing in english. Oh! This is sounding really good! He's finally showing he has some vocal abilities! The performance has a nice classical vibe, almost  an operatic sound. Florian is doing some really nice falsettos here too,  which sound great! Why didn't you do this before man! This was definitely his best performance! It was emotional and he nailed that song! Congrats, keep it up for next week! - VIDEO

W: I was often severe with you about your  songs choices  and your performances. This is the first time you make a real vocal performance! I finally saw your vocal abilities, they are unbelievable!! Very good song and very good performance!
S: You showed us you are a f****** singer! Sorry, excuse me! Florian, you were  very impressive! But and  it's a "but" of encouragement. How old are you Flo?
Florian: 20
S: There is a difference between your age and the way you sing. It sounds a bit old-fashioned. However congrats! Compared to your age, I wanted something more fun but your vocal performance was perfect!
P: We often criticize you, it's true! Today you sang perfectly! I think this song wasn't a good choice! This song brings you to a vocal performance and  I'm looking for an artistic quality. You sang that song at the judges's house, I know you like it a lot but you cannot show us an artistic quality with such a song...  it  was much better than last week though!
D: I'm very proud of you! It was very difficult after last week's criticism! I would say this song is not dated, it's a classic, it's not the same thing! I'm very proud. We worked hard and we've got it right!

Sarah Manesse

Photobucket

Feelin' Good (Nina Simone) - 10/10 -  I adore this song! So yeah, lots of bias here! Loving Sarah and loving this song makes this an instant 10, I can't help it. I love her outfit by the way, it fits the song perfectly. This song sound amazing on quirky voices, as Patricia (from the danish XF) and Rebecca (from the UK XF) have proved and it does even more when a jazzy sound is added. Sarah is another example of how great it sounds! Loved it! - VIDEO

P: I don't think this is a good song choice.  It’s a good song yet!  Muse did a cover which was ranked as the best cover of that song and I personally didn't like your version! Your tone of voice is very interesting, a bit twangy.  There was little substance in your performace, I didn’t like it at all.
D: I really enjoyed your performance this week! There is a big difference from last week's performance! It's a new life for you baby! This kind of song suits you! Congrats!
W: I think it's the war between Henry and us tonight, he decided to be wicked! I'm in love today, I love everybody!  I think your  performance was amazing! Henry I know what you mean, I know the version you mention but I liked her performance, she gave  an ultra current, ultra chic jazzy side to her performance and it was very beautiful!
S: I know Henry was contacted by X Factor Mars, the planet Mars, we will send him very far and for a long time! Sarah you got class! I don't even want to defend myself, there is no artist like you in France. It was  the top class! You got my respect. No matter what happens I'm not worried about your future! Congrats and thanks!

2nde Nature

Photobucket

C'est dit (Calogero) - 7/10 - Mmmm ... This isn't bad actually but it's really cheesy. Their vocals sound better than usual but I can't like them, I just can't. Maybe it's the fact that I hate boybands or maybe it is that they just aren't good enough. Yeah, they sounded good tonight but they are really inconsistent and don't act like a real group. I wouldn't be surprised if they are cut soon.  - VIDEO

D: Wow! You have done group therapy or something? It was good! I'm glad to see you . Boys, you put on an united front! I was very worried for you but it was a good song choice. You were smiling, it was very cute to see your childhood photos. I liked it! Thank you!
W: I think you'll hate me, I'll be honest, I think you have to focus on your performance rather than on the group's existence, problems and so on! I have nothing against you but I honestly believe that each of you has a talent that deserves better than  focusing on such details that put us aside  from what you have to  do!
S: There is nothing personal  and I feel very comfortable talking about it since I worked on this song! So uh .. You speak Japanese? I feel like I was in Tokyo, the karaoke town!! How can we compare what we have just listened and the other performances? It was television and it wasn't  music!
P: Olivier, all tastes are in nature! You aren't master of good taste, you don't know everything about everything.  Boys, you were in a good mood, it was so good ! I'm really proud of you!  I know lot of people love you! Congrats !

Matthew Raymond-Barker

Photobucket

Time After Time (Cindy Lauper) - 10/10 -  Love, love, love! This is amazing!! Matthew's voice is sounding amazing here. He has an incredible phrasing and his tone sounds great. I love this stripped down emotional version of this song. His quirky unique voice is usually not heard much but tonight it's fully shown! And it's amazing! Best Matthew's performance? Definitely! - VIDEO

W: After the 2nd Nature's performance, Matt, your performance was really a performance! You can "do" a Robbie William. You can do pop music, you can do ballads and it was really great! Vocally, I loved it!
S: When I knew you were going to sing "Time After Time", I was skeptical and I'm rarely wrong and  ... it was great! I loved it! It was the great class! You gave us a personal version! Matt, it  was wonderful! The great class!
P: You know what ? I loved it too! It was a clean, great version, very interesting. I loved the dynamic you've put into the song, you have touched the audience! You see, I loved it!
D: Good job Matt! Listening to your performance, I forgot I was in a competition, I forgot we were live on TV,  I was in "the moment" with you and that's what I wanted! Congrats!

Maryvette Lair

Photobucket

Un autre monde (Téléphone) 9/10 - Dancing upbeat Maryvette tonight? I'm not the biggest fan of this one but this is still great. Emotional slow Maryvette works a hundred times better for me but since the judges told her to be more varied, she needed to do this. Her vocals are really good and quirky as usual and she's eating that stage! That was really dynamic and it was also really fun too!  - VIDEO

S: First: Congrats! You have a talent like no other! It's undeniable! I loved it! Just a small criticism: be more spontaneous. But you showed a very high level! Bravo!
P: We adore you Maryvette! You gave a lot of energy and I had a great time! You have talent, no doubt about that!
D: It was about time you offered us a performance like this! Bravo! You have Rock n Roll in the soul! Wow! I had a great time. This song suits you very well. I loved it!
W: I'm super proud, but I mean REALLY super proud! This song is very far from your musical unverse and you've nailed  it! You were alone on stage and it was fantastic! Thank you!

Raphaël Herrerias

Photobucket

Marcia Baïla (Les Rita Mitsouko) - 6.5/10 - WTF is this Raphaël?? That was definitely the worst performance of this first round.  He needs to nail it in the next one cause that was far from stellar. The song is all kinds of wrong, it doesn't show her vocal abilities and it's a pretty lame choice. Yeah, his vocals sound good but it's not impressive nor the kind of performance I'd like to see on a real show. I don't know what the judges were listening to, cause I didn't liked that at all. - VIDEO

W: Good! You lost control and it's good! I especially liked the end of the song when we could see your "crazy" side,  I thought "he feels all the feelings he's singing" and it was great!
S: Everything  happens! I had a great time! You printed your personality on the song. Oh F**k! It was great!
P: Olivier, you said a lot of swearings tonight!
S: I know and I apologize, you're not gone to Mars yet ?
P: No seriously, you say many swearings! Raphael at the beginning of your song, It sounded you were tired and I think you said to yourself "I can't  miss my performance!", and then you woke up and the end of your song was very good! I liked it.
D: Beautiful performance! I'm glad! It's not easy to perform such a song! You can be proud of  it and I hope people will follow you on this journey because I want to continue working with you!

Round 2

Marina D'Amico

Photobucket

J'envoie valser (Zazie)9/10 -  Yay! My favourite Marina is here! She's performing a sweet slow piano performance, played by Olivier. Her voice in French sounds really beautiful, much better than when she sings in English, which isn't bad either. She's really in it to win it! She's really improved throughout the show and she's showing a lot of emotion when she does. - VIDEO

P: You were cute! Teacher and student! It was great! Marina, I think this kind of song suits you better. I felt the emotions.
D: I had a great time, you made me feel the feelings of the lyrics and it was very good. Olivier, congratulations! Marina I saw that you were a great performer!
W: Sublime! This song is beautiful and I wave "Zazie". Marina, you beautifully sang this song, it was super pretty,  honest! I got chills!
S: Thank you friends! I was reluctant to accompany on the piano because it's not my job but the friends with whom I composed "Mozart l' Opéra Rock" insisted and they said: "At worst, you'll be ridiculous in front of 3 million people". So I did it and I'm glad! Marina, I was very proud of accompanying you on the piano! Thank you!

Florian Giustiniani

Photobucket

Wherever You Will Go (The Calling) - 7/10 -  Oh Florian! What happened?! I was starting to like you a lot more but with this you've fallen back to where you were. And it has also become really confusing. He's either the jazzy kid, the pop kid or the rock kid. Not the three of them. He needs to stick to jazzy tunes and not jump from style to style. His pronunciation was really bad and the whole performance seemed forced. - VIDEO

W: I prefered your first performance. This one lacked strength, in the end you gave energy and it was better but still ...
S: I don't understand your musical universe. I don't know what kind of music you're going to do in the future. But you have a "pretty face", you have quite a stage presence and you have charisma. You're sublime when you sing but I do not understand the path you're taking.
P: When you sing in English you have a Marseilles accent. How interesting! Tonight, you sang two songs so we can compare and it's interesting! I prefer you in the first kind of song like 'SOS d'un terrien en détresse ...". I think it suits you better.
D: Wow! We did it! I'm happy because we have chosen a song in English, we worked hard. Through this show we have the chance to try something different and personally I think this kind of song suits you perfectly. We'll see you next week! Good performance! Thank you!

Sarah Manesse

Photobucket

Je voulais te dire que je t'attends (Michel Jonasz) 9,5/10  -  This is the Sarah I love! She's honest, pure and emotional. Her quirky voice makes it really easy to connect with her, it makes her fragile and vulnerable. A very simple but highly emotional performance. I wish I could understand what she was saying! That was beauty! - VIDEO

P: I thought this song was suicidal but I was wrong. I had a great time. I haven't always been kind to you but tonight, something happened, I believed in every lyrics and I loved it.
D:  I have nothing to say about the voice, it was perfect, I'm a fan of your voice. We have seen that you danced well, you had a great stage presence but  you need to work on your rendition. But I loved your performance.
W: I'm a supporter  from the beginning. It is true that it's a big song, very difficult to sing because there are lots of melodic changes, it often rises a semitone so it's difficult! I had a good time. I felt that you were lost sometimes but it does not matter because being an artist means having moments of weakness, that makes  them "human" and your rendition touched me.
S: I have worked with many French artists and there are not many who have your talent. Bravo! It was magical, musically it was magnificent!

2nde Nature

Photobucket

Just the Way You Are (Bruno Mars) - 7/10 - Well, this is much better than their first one. Actually, I regret that. It started really good but something happened in the middle and it was not pleasant anymore. It seemed that each of them was singing a different song. The arrengment wasn't bad but their voices lack the power to perform this song.  - VIDEO

D: Wow guys! It's the right song for you! I think your musical arrangements are good! I love Adrian’s energy, we feel that he is fighting for his group and I love it! Bravo!
W: I'm suprised, I felt  like  it was another band! Your vocal arrangements are very good! It was really good! Bravo!
S: It was much better than your first performance! But there is something that bothers me, your vocals are recorded aren't they?
P: MG! You are so insincere Olivier!
S: There is no choir registered?
P: Not more than for other candidates!
W: We are free to do the same with our candidates!
S: Be honest! It wasn't bad but it was recorded!
P: MG! I can't believe it ! What a bad faith! Olivier doesn't admit you did a great job! Your musical arrangements were great! Thank you!

Matthew Raymond-Barker

Photobucket

Ma philosophie (Amel Bent) - 7/10 -  Since no one can stand Henry, and he's been constantly trying to make Matthew sing in French, he's giving it the pleasure of doing so. And you know what Henry? It sucks! After his amazing first performance, he's just gone like 10 steps backwards. He sounds good but there's nothing new or unique here, it was just a really decent performance but it was in French, so expect a lot of praising coming!- VIDEO

W: What happened to you tonight? Tonight, your performances were fantastic! Amel Bent has an incredible"flow" and you printed your own personality into this song. It was really good! This song is difficult because the pace of words is very fast, you made an effort and it paied off! It was magnificent!
S: You've got class when you dance! Henry said that in the UK there were many people who sing like you but people who "move" like you on stage with such a  class, there are not many! I had a great time and I think you are one of the best tonight!
P: Olivier,  you  distort my words and take them out of context! Matt, why were you afraid of singing in French?
Matt: I wasn't afraid. A good song, whether in English or French is a good song! The language doesn't matter.
P: You succeeded Matt! We laughed because you've changed the lyrics, it was a  girl's song and you've tranformed it into  a  guy's song,  you spoke about "British "and so on ..... I  understood every lyrics and it was great!
D: We have targeted the "moon" (she pronounced "moon"with an English accent: "Loune") and we touched it ! Yeahhhhhh! I'm super excited! You did it !!!!!!

Maryvette Lair

Photobucket

We Are the Champions (Queen) - 10/10 -  Wow! Maryvette and Queen should make something epic! She's joined by Willem on piano. What is it? Sing with your coach night? This is a very jazzy and unique take on this song. Of course I'm liking it a lot but I know this will be really polarizing. There will be a lot of haters of this one. She's a bit too low and too quirky, much in the "Bang Bang" style. I loved that but I'm not sure if everyone will.  - VIDEO

S: Congrats Chris, I know it’s not easy, there are a lot of pressure, eh? Maryvette my comment will be positive but I think you went too far!  With you, we're on Radio Nova (it means we are on another planet)
Maryvette: I like Radio Nova!
S: This is musically  too intellectual, by far too trendy. I would have prefered it to be more simple. You saved your performance because you're a great artist and we need you.
P: It's funny, I agree with Oliver! Maryvette and Willem, you're both crazy! You make a damn pair! That said, there are moments of grace, but this comedy, this stuff is too trendy, it can become boring over time. Maryvette I adore you, I don't want to see you go away but stop taking this kind of risk! You are both mad!
D: I'm fan since the beginning and you're a great performer. Bravo! Great performance!
W: I make no apology about what we did with this song! This song is sublime! It's not too trendy, it 's graceful! In this version, I haven’t seen an actress, I saw a girl who lived fully the present moment and I was really touched. I was moved because I felt her fragility.

Raphaël Herrerias

Photobucket

Thriller (Michael Jackson) - 8/10 -  He's doing the Aiden version. I see similarites everywhere! From the arrengment to the dancers. I'm loving it though! Great comeback after the other trainwreck! Well, that's interesting! He's fasten it up! No more Aiden comparissons now! I wish he would have keeped it slow! The voice is good though, crazy Raphaël is definitely there! And he brought the dance moves! I've to give him extra points for the effort. - VIDEO

W: It was visually very pretty. I'm surprised but it was good!
S: It was a real risk-taking but you were out of tune from beginning till the end, your voice's tone was too low. You can do the show but I didn't enjoyed it.
P: I wonder why you gave an African dimension to a song which refers to zombies ..... I was disturbed. I stayed outside the performance.
D: We aren't afraid to take risks! We took a risk, we tried, we dared! I think you've met the challenge,  tonight. But we are able to tackle other challenges! So vote for him!

Music Video: Lauren Pritchard: Stuck

The always amazing Lauren Pritchard, who was the 8th placer in the MDS Sound of 2011, is here once more with her new single, my personal favourite from her, the incredible "Stuck". The song was realeased on February 28, while the music video premiered ten days before. As expected, the video is really beautiful and show Lauren and her "boyfriend" escaping from prision apparently. Despite that, the song is really great and the video actually makes a lot of sense. She definitely one of my favourites this year, so anything she releases will be great for me but I'm confident this soulish song will impress you.

X Factor Netherlands 2011: Top 6 Perform: Ik hou van Holland

UPDATE: Ed Ruyer is cut!! Sim'Ran where in the B2.

Last week, Angela saw her first act leaving the competition. It was the time to leave for the first group, Sway, whose vocal abilities had been proving to be not so strong. Tonight, the final 6 will perform two songs each, one in dutch and a duet with a dutch singer, so this will be a really exciting night! ... It's time to face the music!

Comments, videos and ratings AFTER THE JUMP ....

Sim'Ran

Photobucket

"Afscheid" with Glennis Grace - 9/10 - This seems like a great match. Glennis Grace has a really similar style and voice to this girls. This is really nice but the song is a bit boring for me, plus their outfits are a disaster. This is softer to what they usually show, which is a more disco pop performance. Glennis is a great singer! That voice is terrific and it overshadowed the girls a bit, whose voices are softer and sweeter, but a great duet overall!  - VIDEO

Pyke Pos

Photobucket

"If You Wanna Roll With Me" (Boris Titulaer) - 9/10 - Wow! This is a great song for Pyke! It's that jazz/funk vibe and his vocals are delicious here. He's showing a raspy soulish tone tonight which I've not seen before, but I definitely want to see it again! This is one of his best performances in my opinion. - VIDEO

Ed Ruyer

Photobucket

"Stil In Mij with Martin Buitenhuis - 4,5/10 - I've never heard of this singer. And that said, I didn't miss much. He's not interesting at all. This pair isn't also. The performance is really lame and boring, a rock band would have been a much better pick for Ed. This isn't an entertaining performance, I just want it to stop as soon as possible! And is it just me or Ed seemed completely lost there? - VIDEO

Rochelle Perts

Photobucket

"De Speeltuin" (Marco Borsato) - 9,5/10 - Some technical issues with her microphone happen, they change it. This is the first time she's singing in dutch if I'm not mistaken. And as obvious as it sounds, she sounds amazing! A very soft and emotional song, with the usual great vocals, without the swaggy attitude. This looks like a more vulnerable Rochelle and I'm loving her! More please!  - VIDEO

Adlicious

Photobucket

"Promises Promises"  with Lisa Lois - 9/10 - This will be great! Not my favourite song from Lisa but this is still a really good one. Their voices sound so well together!! And I'm definitely in love with Shirley's voice! This was great and Lisa did a terrific job, but after Rochelle's emotional performance, this wasn't so stellar. A great one still. - VIDEO

Rolf Wienk

Photobucket

"Ga Dan" (Gordon and Re-Play) - 9/10 - Oh, his father is named Rolf too. Funny, cause they look identical. This is, well, interesting. Not liking this song start actually. I knew it!!! I knew this song was familiar to me! "A Puro Dolor" is this song's spanish name. So loving the spanish part! I was hoping for more spanish performances from him and here we've got it! I want a full song now. But yeah, that part was really worth it. - VIDEO

Sim'Ran

Photobucket

"Ik Heb Je Lief" (Paul de Leeuw) - 6/10 -  Oh, they are singing to their families. Like literally singing to them . They are sit next to them in the audience. This is pretty wierd and boring actually. Is it emotional? Well, maybe for them. I don-t see much vocal power here. Just a very boring song for their families. It was pleasant enough but I was not impressed.- VIDEO

Pyke Pos

Photobucket

"No Mercy" with Racoon - 10/10 - What was that?! This Racoon band is really cool! I recommend checking his music. I know I will after this. This pair is really well thought. They work well together and the song fits Pyke perfectly. They guy is on a lucky strike tonight! Two stellar performances on the same night! This is definitely the best duet of the night. He gets a standing O from the judges, and he gets one from me also! - VIDEO

Adlicious

Photobucket

"De Bestemming" (Marco Borsato) - 9/10 - They start the song laying on the floor, much as the Rachel Adedeji way. It seems that all the contestants are doing the same thing. Doing an upbeat song as their duets and picking an emotional song for their solos. I'm not complaining still. This is the first time I've seen them singing in dutch also. They sound really good but I prefer them when they perform in English. And how many Marco Borsato's songs can someone stand?! - VIDEO

Rolf Wienk

Photobucket

"Jij bent zo" with Jeroen van der Boom - 8/10 - Well, this was meant to happen, after all, Rolf and Jeroen are really similar performers. OMG!! More spanish from Rolf!!! Bring it man! Rolf is singing in spanish and Jeroen in dutch. Ouch, that was a really bad note, thanks to Gordon from making us all notice it! Well, this isn't a great song, but they did a good entertaining job. - VIDEO

Ed Ruyer

Photobucket

"Saturday Night" (Herman Brood) - 7/10 - Mmm ... I'm not really liking this Ed's performance much either. He's got some of the inital Joe Cocker's vibes I saw on him but the performance was lacking something for me. It was a little plain. Yeah, he showed great vocals but it wasn't the best of the night. - VIDEO

Rochelle Perts

Photobucket

"Wicked Way" with Waylon - 10/10 - This will definitely by my favourite duet, cause I love them both. And yeah, I'm loving this! That start was great! The light focusing the one who was singing and the rest of the stage in black was genius. Their vocals are great. They work perfectly together. Waylon had this great soulish rock vibe and Rochelle added it her swagger! This performance and Pyke's duet were the best! - VIDEO
